Hi

Any suggestions for a good breakfast near the SAC station during our stop between the sb CS and eb CZ. We arrive? at

6:15 am and depart at 11:00am Sept 23.

Thanks

Sadly there CRR museum isn't really open during those hours to get yourself a good look. You're right next to Old Sac so if you're into photography and architecture you may want to go on a walking tour.

When I went through I had some fun hopping the Capitols down the line-- I went down to Suisun City-- not a bad place (though better after the sun rises) there's a great café there.

I took a second trip from Suisun down to Martinez to catch the CZ--

I'll leave it up to the local experts (and believe me we have a lot of them) on Sac to tell you what you can do without leaving the city.

even though the california rail museum isn't open when you are there, it is only 3 or 4 blocks from the station and there is much to look at. well worth the walk. if the cs is on time or a few muniutes late we have had luck grabbing a quick dining car breakfast (once taking it off the train and eating in the station). we get to the diner right as it opens and let the lsa know we are detraining in sac

Yup, when in doubt-- get it to go!

In Sacramento, if you walk out of the front of the Amtrak building, to your left in the parking lot is a Starbucks.

If you cross the street and walk around the Vagabond Hotel, there is a Denny's, open 24 hours. It was ok, & close enough to walk.

Enjoy your trip!!!

So, if I de-train off the WB CZ and am waiting for the NB CS, what would you do? Thinking about taking the CZ, CS to SEA and then taking the EB and CZ back to LNK next September. Want to see the Huskers play the Huskies in SEA.

Depends on the day. If it's during the week I'd take the light rail (conveniently located next to the station platform) either two stops to 7th and Capitol or four stops to Archives Plaza at 11th and O Streets and walk over to the California State Capitol building and take the free guided tour. It is walkable from the station it takes about fifteen minutes depending on how fast you walk. First tour leaves IIRC at 8 AM.

Old Sac's been mentioned. It's definitely the major tourist area. It's not very big and the businesses won't open until 10 AM.

CSRM is closer to the Amtrak station then three or four blocks away. It's at the west end of the station platform just under the I-5 overpass. It would be the first building on your right.

Sure can. I like a place called Jim Denny's. It's on the corner of 12th Street and Terminal Way. It opens at 7 AM. To get there from the station exit the station from the trackside door and turn right when you get to the edge of the station you'll be at the corner of 5th and H Streets. Walk down H to 11th Street. Turn right on 11th then make the first left onto Terminal Way. Jim Denny's will be ont he right just past the Goodyear service center. Walk will take ten minutes at normal pace. It's a small (very small) counter and stool restaurant but their breakfasts are great. It's also a nice way to stretch the legs after a long ride on the train.

The location has some railroad related history as it was the terminal for the streetcar system that used to exist in Sacramento.

Others have mentioned Denny's. It's close but it's Denny's.

When I was on the CS in August, breakfast in the diner was NOT an option! The night before, they said over the PA SPECIFICALLY that "... the diner will begin serving at 6:30 OR AS SOON AS THE WHEELS START TURNING AFTER SAC ..." So I guess that even if we were 1 hour late, breakfast service would not begin until 7:15!

They've been known to be three hours late. ;)
