When you get a sleeper using AGR points you are allowed to bring another passenger at no extra charge. My question is does that person have to travel on the same city pairs I do? Like I'm going from NOL to WAS then onto the Capitol Limited from there. If my friend who might go might want to get on at ATL and go onto Washington. Has anyone tried it using AGR points?

Technically, the other person is supposed to travel all the segments with you. But as long as the name is on the reservation for the whole trip, you can get away with it! :D (And make sure that other person has their tickets in case they need to show them at the gate.)

As an example, last October I went BHM-WAS-CHI-PDX-LAX (the loophole :p ) using an award! My sister's fiance wanted to visit his friend in PDX, but met me in WAS to ride to PDX. I had his name on the complete res, but he did not ride the first segment. There was no problem - I met him in the Club Acela at WAS. In PDX, he just "forgot" to board the CS to LAX. (He stayed in PDX for a few days.)

Another example: in May Mrs. Ispolkom and I will be traveling from Washington to Minot on AGR points. We'll take #29 to Chicago, and then #7 to Minot. Or at least I will. Actually, she's leaving the train in St. Paul (she has much less vacation than I), while I'll go on alone to enjoy the fleshpots of the Magic City for a few days, maximizing the value per point of the trip.

She refuses, though, to book an AGR award MOT-WAS, with her trying to get on the train at MSP, which is similar to your situation. She fears an argument with the conductor about boarding at MSP with an AGR reward ticket from MOT. I'd be willing to try it, but she won't.

Does this passenger still have to pay the rail fare?

Nope, its no extra charge at all. This is what makes using points for a room so great. The same number of points lets you fill the room to capacity at no extra charge.

And just an update for my trip. I was going from NOL to WAS to CHI to LAX. I called and just had my friend ticketed the entire way. I told the conductor and my sleeper attendant that she'd be boarding in Charlotte. It was know problem at all. I just met her on the platform with her ticket. She couldn't go all the way to LAX so she just got off in ABQ.
