Hello everyone,

I'm planning a trip and I'm curious about Amtrak senior discount options. I've heard they offer discounts for seniors, but I'm not sure how it works. Can anyone share their experience or provide some details on how to take advantage of these discounts?

Any tips on booking and maximizing the savings would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

As far as I am aware, the only discount that is offered is 10% of the coach fare element of the booking (so if the total fare of a sleeper booking was $1500 and was comprised of $250 coach element and $1250 sleeper add on, the senior discount would amount to $25 giving an overall cost of $1475).

Looking at the link in the original post, many of the images purportedly showing Amtrak are nothing near what I see when I have travelled in Amtrak sleeping accommodations !!

As greatwestern said, it only applies to the coach/rail fare. If you're booking a sleeper, the cost is split between the rail/coach price and the roomette price.
If you're booking for 2 in a room, you'll be charged 2 rail fares and one accommodation fare. If booking for one person, 1 rail rare and the accommodation fare.
