I noticed where trains east of Toledo and Indianapolis (except Jacksonville to Miami) are cancelled due to Irene. Also it appears the California Zephyr won't resume until Wednesday.

Anyone heard anything else/different?

Will be on the CZ on Sunday....hopefully they won't have time to get very far behind between Wednesday and Sunday.

Sunday, 28 August, 8:15 pm, MDT

The Amtrak website shows the CZ, No. 5 departing CHI tomorrow at 2 pm.

It also shows the CZ, No. 6 departing Emeryville at 9:10 am tomorrow.

What is the source of your CZ schedule information ??

Trainorders.com forum mentions this, plus if you try to reserve space on Amtrak's website for the CZ it gives you an alternate route or says not available on the date you requested, and suggests you travel Thursday.

Wednesday resumption for CZ? now the website is saying Wednesday departure is available. Maybe that is it.

As we have discussed before on this forum, it would be nice when they make a decision, to post prominently on the website. Right now we have to deal with rumors and messing with availability, unless we want to call and ask an already swamped reservations person.

Oddly enough they seem to post such information quite promptly on Facebook and Twitter these days. I wish they'd take the trouble to capture their own Facebook and Twitter posts and post them on their own website simultaneously too.

Would be nice, especially for those of us who don't Twitter or use :help: Facebook! :help:

Jeeze I'm getting to be an old f*rt!

Along the theme of this post.....I have a friend leaving Cleveland on the LSL for New York departing Wednesday morning. As of right now, the LSL is cancelled for tonight but nothing is posted for tomorrow night's LSL (originating Chicago Tuesday). Right now the website says the typical There is a problem with one, etc. for that nights LSL. Will Amtrak contact my friend to tell her that the train is cancelled if it comes to that? I can't remember if they contact passengers with reservations in hand.

Provided Amtrak has correct contact info on the passenger's reservation, they will call if there is a problem/change/cancellation.

does anyone know why the cz is cancelled?
Did you see the thread on the California Zephyr derailment on Friday due to hitting a construction crane? http://discuss.amtraktrains.com/index.php?/topic/42197-deraiilment-in-nebraska/

Between the loss of one trainset until the cars get back to the yard, the tracks torn up by the derailment, and the constant delays on the route, Amtrak threw in the towel for a few days.
Not to mention the nightmarish issues of crew availability and scheduling. With a three-day time out, all crews are rested and, at least for a while, the crew issue goes away. Things had gotten so bad that some westbound Zephyrs were leaving Chicago short service staff, and Amtrak was flying rested crew members to Omaha to catch up to the train.
