Positives of extending Seven Subway to Secaucus, New Jersey:

1. Increases revenue for the MTA

2. Would be cheaper to build than Gateway

3. Would take less time to build than Gateway

4. Dramatically improves access from Bergen County to/from Midtown, Manhattan.

Negatives of extending Seven Subway to Secaucus, New Jersey:

1. Does not increase capacity between Newark, New Jersey, and points south.

2. Does not provide for back up redundancy if there is a Tunnel Problem with Amtrak's Infrastructure

3. Engineering studies might take longer than Gateway's since the tunnel box is already under construction

Before we even think about expanding to NJ, let's see 2nd Avenue funded and finished and perhaps another crosstown line between Queens and Brooklyn so that when the G ever gets messed up again, there is still a relatively close link on the west/middle side of Queens towards Brooklyn; Roosevelt Avenue Terminal. Or, for Staten Island to finally have a tunnel connecting to the rest of the city and unburden their commute from using the ferry.

I agree; the Second Avenue Subway should get priority over the Seven Subway Extension to NJ.
