Good lord. And for anyone who hasn't seen, #19 arrived at NOL yesterday 8 hours 24 minutes late. #20 arrived in NYP 5 hours 4 minutes late

Terrible accident. I wish people would respect RR crossings. Everyday, I go by a UP main where cars stop on the grade crossing even though big signs tell drivers not to. Plus the impatient drivers who go through the down gates because they don't want to wait. My wife is so afraid we are going to see someone killed. We get honked at for stopping at the white line until there is space on the other side. Many times a driver goes around me to sit on the tracks.

It was an elderly couple (brother and sister) 76 & 83 years old.

Though witnesses say it was self inflicted - an error in judgement, if not intentional.

The crossing rails and signals were working at the time and there were witnesses to the crash. Several motorists were stopped because of the signals, and they reported the victims were also stopped and then made the decision to continue on despite the warning signals.

We'll have to wonder if the car driver thought a slow, long freight train was approaching.

I also wonder if they were running late for her appointment.

So no fault of Amtrak or the host railroad.

I agree, but honestly I'm more focused on two elderly siblings dying than on if it was Amtrak's fault or not.

I agree, but honestly I'm more focused on two elderly siblings dying than on if it was Amtrak's fault or not.

Whoever was driving made the terrible decision to put their lives in danger. That's a bad move no matter how old you are.
