Municipal Transportation Agency spokesman Judson True says a light-rail car on the J-Church line rear-ended a car on the F-Market line around 6:20 a.m. Thursday near the Noe Valley neighborhood. True said both vehicles were heading toward downtown San Francisco, but the car on the F-Market line had stopped at the time of the crash.

Both the Metro train and the historic F-line streetcar were on the J-Church line. The empty streetcar was heading from the common car barn out to its service line on Market Street. Investigation of the incident has lead to the conclusion that the driver of the J-Church train failed to stop per operating procedures; the F-line streetcar was stopped, as required.
