My last AMTRAK trip was on time (unlike many previous ones that were horrifically late), so I had thought some of the worst on time issues were better. After finding this place, I see that is not so..in fact as I checked the status site, I found that my next trip ..July, to Milwaukee via Chicago..seems to have alot of ontime problems (like everything else) My question..I'm getting a sleeper, so if we are late and are still on board at dinner, will my meal vouchers still be good for that meal even though if I was on time I'd be off the train before dinner? How about if it's so late I miss the latest connection to Milwaukee?? I had really thought things were better..but looks pretty bad instead.

I think pretty much if you are in a sleeper the rule is that if they are late enough that it's mealtime and they are far enough away from the destination that there is enough time to prepare, serve and consume the meal and still have time to clean up afterwards, prior to arriving, you will get fed. Now if they are running really late and as a result have run out of regular meals, then they may pick up some KFC or other fast food at an intermediate station stop, to feed you with. But pretty much if you are in a sleeper, you get fed at mealtimes if it's going to be awhile before you arrive at your destination. As a first class passenger, (in a sleeper) those meals, however many there are, are included in your sleeper fare.

As said, if you will definitely be on the train for a meal, they will definitely do something about it.

When I was on a late arriving Capitol Limited, they served lunch from what was already on the train. When I was on the twelve-hour-late Coast Starlight, we got dinner as per usual; and a breakfast of danishes, doughnuts, and the such for first-class passengers was apparently picked-up in SLO and served in the Pacific Parlour Car.

Train 55 from ny to Washington DC is always late by an hour if not more. 4 other trains to that destination have already left and I still have no idea when my 6:45 train will be arriving. It is 7:45. I'm done. I'd rather take the bus and be stuck in traffic then spend money to take a train at a specific time when less expensive trains at the time of booking have already left. This is the 4th out of 5the times it has been over an hour late. BS.

Good thing "Annoyed" gave up after an hour and took the bus. Six years is a long time to wait for a train. The actual departure for 55 that day was 8:42.

I don't see four trains departing NYP for WAS between 6:45 and 7:45 that day, only three: 137 at 6:48 (0:23 late), 2171 at 7:07, and 175 at 7:40.

To minimize future annoyance, consider booking one of the trains that originates at NYP (e.g. 193, 2119, or 187) rather than a through train that is subject to upline delays.

Train #55 is a special case, its the southbound Vermonter a long-distance train from St. Albans, Vermont. I recommend not booking it to go from NYP to WAS if your booking ahead it should normally be cheeper to choose other trains since the Vermonter isn't eligible for the 25% advanced fare discount.

I know this is a VERY old topic, but for anyone's information, if you're on any train to an intermediate point (say BHM) with a scheduled arrival before meal time but the train is running so late that you could easily eat a meal, you are entitled to that meal! Example:The scheduled arrival is 11 am, but the train is running 2 hours late and is not scheduled to arrive until 1 pm, you're entitled to lunch!

I know what you're talking about, by chance, I used to live in BHM! That hole of a station dosen't have much rail service but at least it has the Crescent!
