So the cool factor is limited for those of us in Illinois who want travel time options with Lincoln Service versus riding Texas Eagle to Chicago to connect with long distance routes.

Yup! One example would be taking a one-zone redemption between Denver and San Diego. You HAVE to take the Pacific Surfliner between LAX and SAN, which means you'll be traveling on a "Special Segment" train.
