Does the Southwest Chief #3 pull into Los Angeles Union Station from the north or from the south?
I'm not sure what the intent of the OP's question, but yes, ALL trains come into the stub-end LAUS on the throat tracks from the North. I believe the OP was referring to the approach routes North, East, and South. The SWC, as said, comes into the station from the South as opposed to the SL/TE from the East and the CS from the North. On the other hand, LAUS only (for now) has tracks coming into the station from the north. It is a stub end station.
I could be sure either so I mentioned the existing situation as LAUS to cover both possibilities.I'm not sure what the intent of the OP's question, but yes, ALL trains come into the stub-end LAUS on the throat tracks from the North. Unitl tracks are completed that run through the station, all trains enter from the same direction at the throat.
Hope this clears up the answer.
I was kinda wondering this too. When the Chief pulls into the station will the East Portal be on the right or the left? (Still trying to orient myself before getting there......)Does the Southwest Chief #3 pull into Los Angeles Union Station from the north or from the south?
Okay thanks......that answers a lot of the confusion! In some of the youtube videos it shows the East Portal opposite of where it should be if coming from the south. And yes, I have looked at the station/area with GoogleEarth.....very helpful.... Now (hopefully) nothing will surprise me when we pull in.You might want to take a look at a statellite view of the area too...in inbound (westbound) SWC actually approaches from the south, does a "180" to enter the station.
