My husbband and I each have SPG and AGR accounts, since you have to keep them seperate by person.

We would like to make an Amtrak booking with AGR points but need to combine my AGR points with his SPG points. I know you can move SPG points to AGR in blocks for free. But I don't think that SPG will let him move his SPG points to my AGR account? Which means he must move them to his AGR account and then pay to transfer from his AGR to my AGR so that the points are then combined. This seems silly. Is there anyway to combine these for free?

Here's one way to do it. Your husband can transfer his SPG points to your account. This is a free transaction, or at least it was the last time I did it. Step two, you transfer the combined SPG points to AGR. You might have to do this in blocks of 5000, I can't remember. Check the SPG Web site.

After the transfers are made from SPG at AGR, would either (or both) accounts have enough points for a one way redemption?

If so, I would not bother with the expense of transferring between accounts!

Your husband can redeem a one way award, with you as the second person, and then you can redeem an award for the other way, with him as the second person!

I did this a couple of months ago -- transferred a few orphan points in my SPG account to my wife's SPG account for free. I believe their policy is husband and wife living at the same address can freely transfer SPG points between their SPG accounts.
