I haven't seen an Amtrak train towed backwards before. I saw the Starlight being towed backwards through Dunsmuir. I was curious about what happened. I am guessing that is the 11. Is the train turned around and run as the 14? Do they use the turntable at Dunsmuir? ImageUploadedByAmtrak Forum1487005101.471474.jpg What happened to 14, was that also towed backwards? How far north did it get? Did they set up a bus bridge? Very curious and would appreciate some expert insight.

The segment was canceled between RDD and SAC, and was bus-bridged between the two points, according to someone on Facebook who works for Amtrak. I would guess that they have to use the wye to physically turn the train (After all, wyes are the only practical way to turn a train of 1500 feet around).

According to the local news last night UP closed the line from SAC to Redding due to the very serious issues at the Oroville Dam/spillway. Large number of folks in the area were issued a mandatory evacuation order last night.

I don't know if you can really say that a train is going "backwards" since all cars and even locomotives are reversible. It wouldn't even be backing up since it's being pulled by a locomotive, without a cab car.
