SW chief during summer

Hi guys,

I may be on the Chief this summer and wanted your ideas on which time would be better (in terms of fewer travelers): first couple weeks of July or first couple weeks of August. Thanks

It's hard to say. The summer months are pretty busy from the end of June and into early Spetember. The first couple weeks of July you will have Independence Day travelers, but in August you won't.

My considerable experience with this train is much as Amfleet suggests: it can get full all summer. Early July is slightly worse than early August. I would suggest the August alternative and make my reservations early.

I usually find early June to be the best time. Right after Memorial Day is a great time. Down here we think of Memorial Day weekend as training camp for the summer. So I'd go with either early June or late August.
