For a limited time, ride the Auto Train with your family and bring the kids along for under $20 each. With the "Kids Ride for $19" promotion on the Auto Train, which carries passengers and their automobiles, two children between the ages of 2-15 may travel for $19 each when accompanied by a full-fare paying adult. The Auto Train offers one daily departure in each direction, with non-stop service between Lorton, Va., near Washington, DC, and Sanford, Fla., near Orlando. A great way for families to travel, the Auto Train will allow you to avoid the hassles of the highway, but still have your car when you arrive at your destination. Plus, you can bring a motorcycle, trailer or small boat.
Thats a heck of deal considering they kids get the meals included to!

make sure your in sleeper if you have kids. the coach diner staff is rude and you don't get any soft drinks with the meal either beer or water. want pop with your mean buy it from the lounge.

  <_< Beer? or Water? but not soda? Beer is like $4 on Amtrak a can of Pepsi is $2 that doesn't make sense. I've read trip reports where they say the coach dining staff is just fine. Not saying there might not be a bad crew but I don't think they are all like that.

Do the AutoTrain meals not include milk, water or coffee (and juice at breakfast)? That's been my experience on other Amtrak LD trains.
