Picking up other material not in this article, it is reported that testing will be at upto 200kph They will be targeted for use both in medium distance day trains and overnight LD service.
IR already has locomotives that are capable of 200kph. They will need to extend deployment of ERTMS on the selected routes, finish the massive track fencing project and figure out what to do with zillions of grade crossings.
This project is separate from the HSR project being funded by a long term loan from Japan and being executed with Japanese technology transfer. This is for running higher speed service on existing routes with track strengthening and signaling system upgrade.
