I rode the Texas Eagle from Dallas to St. Louis on Oct. 6 in bedroom with my brother. The on board staff was terrific! Friendly, helpful, cheerful. Food was good, too. Little owner was that the lounge was out of liquor and nearly out of beer. They only stock in Chicago and that is "supposed" to last the round trip. BUT.... the BIG downers were A)the mattress on the top bunk (mine) was hard as a wooden church pew. B)the track was really rough! It made sleep nearly impossible. Continual low spots caused continuous side-to-side rocking. I felt like I was in a martini shaker. This is probably made worse by the tall bi-level superliner car. It was bad enough to make me think twice about doing this trip again. Has anyone rode this train in the lower level of these cars? It would seem to me that doing so would lessen this side-to-side rocking problem.
