I took the opportunity of the COVID slowdown to explore this old defunct railroad that ran through Melbourne along University Avenue and then continued out to the west across the St. Johns River and marshes to Deer Park near Holopow Jn. on US192 today.
It was the first crossing of St. Johns River in the vicinity of Melbourne. The SR500/US192 bridge was built several years later. Union Cypress even provided a car ferry on flat wagons across the St. Johns for a short period of time.
There is a nice article on it and associated archeology that gives a pretty good impression of what remains and how to get to see them. The plaque for the Railway can be found just off Hollywood Blvd near the Tallwood Park by the canal.
