There have been dozens of special-purpose trains that have traveled around North America, Europe and Australia. They are a special breed -- usually tied to an event, a celebration, anniversary, exposition, cause, or plain ol' patriotism. Most were never meant to turn a profit. Others were business ventures using their theme to attract customers. But all have one thing in common: they were meant to draw a crowd.

I notice there have been none in the last 30+ years!

I wish I saw the inside of the Freedom Train. I was in line, but the line was too long and my mother did not want to wait. (What's a teenager to do but listen to Mom when you're in another city? )

WHAT!?! I got into a train that Dave couldn't get into?!? :giggle:

Well, I think I did. I know I went with some friends, but I can't remember any details, including if we actually went into the train.

None that the linked website bothered to list. :giggle:

* Amtrak had an anniversary train a couple of years back; I toured it at Chicago Union Station. Link.

* Whoever made the 2009 Christmas Carol movie ran a promotional train that I also toured at CUS. Links: A B Yes, that's me. :hi:
