I will be traveling from the 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. to Toccoa, GA very soon. But unexpected things have come up to where I need to go to Fayetteville, NC. Is there a way I can exchange my ticket from 30th Street Station going to GA to 30th Street Station going to NC? And just pay the difference.

Yes. First call up Amtrak and change your reservation right now (to get the lowest fare or bucket), and then you can exchange them at the station. (The bucket could rise between now and then, thus the suggestion to reserve now.)

How did you book your tickets (online or calling or in person at a station)?

Have you printed your tickets yet?

How soon is "very soon"?

Sleeper or Coach?

Best case: You booked online and were logged into Amtrak's website when you did. You can go back to Amtrak's website and cancel your trip and get an automatic refund.

Worst case: You already have printed tickets in hand and you'll have to go down to the train station to exchange them.

Although others here have basically said "no problem," it actually depends on what kind of fare you purchased.

In general, "regular" fares are exchangeable under most circumstances.

However, some fares, such as "Smart Fares," state clearly in the fare rules that no exchanges or refunds are allowed.
