I noticed 2 buses @ the same times from TOL to ARB (#6029 & # 6049) ?????
Noticed them where? In the parking lot? On the highway? Next to the train? ON the tracks? opps! Or in the timetable or on the web?I noticed 2 buses @ the same times from TOL to ARB (#6029 & # 6049) ?????
"6029" connects from #29 (the CL) and "6049" connects from #49 (the LSL), The 2 trains arrive at different times, but there is (I believe) only 1 bus (which waits until the later train arrives before it departs)!I noticed 2 buses @ the same times from TOL to ARB (#6029 & # 6049) ?????

Sure enough, both the Lake Shore Limited and the CL schedules list 6029 / 6049 (northbound) and 6030 / 6048 (Southbound) on the exact same schedule. I do suspect that this is really only one bus that leaves after both trains have arrived. I have ridden both the bus and connecting train before many years ago when I lived in Ann Arbor.
Back when it was a train, one of the Chicago - Detroit trains headed to Toledo. One Christmas when visiting the folks in Toledo, I treated myself to the train ride. Going into Detroit they still had the crossovers into the station track (nearby the old station building by a real scary looking amshak). What was interesting was they had the switch heaters going. It was late at night and they let me ride in the cab car. At that time they pulled the train from Chicago to Detroit but pushed it to Toledo. They usually had the cab car closed to passengers, but I was able to convince them to let me stay. This is back when train crews were still able opt to be friendly to rail fans. I found out shortly thereafter the crossovers were removed.
On the trip back 48 was running extremely late. Since there were several passengers there starting in Toledo, plus the people along the route heading to Chicago they decided to let the train go and bus the connecting passengers. This was before the Capitol went through Toledo. To try to make up time they annulled the Detroit stop and treated us (maybe only a crazy rail fan would consider this route a treat to use freight only track through the industrial areas so we could head direct to Dearborn. The unusual route meant that the usual push movement from Detroit to Chicago was a pull.
Anyways, I know this wasn't your question, but it did bring back some interesting memories that I though I would share.
