Whatever siding I'm sitting on!
A very short report about my trip this week. It's been almost a whole month
ohmy.gif
since I was on a train, so I thought it was time! Besides, I had to re-qualify for Select!

At the last minute (almost - about 1 PM on Tuesday), I made plans to take the 3:xx PM train KIN-BOS. I had found a bunch of unused tickets, some of which would expire in a few weeks. From BOS-NYP, I took AE #2163!

To my surprise, even for an AE departing at 5:20 PM on a workday, and about 4 hours from when I made the reservation, I still was able to use my upgrade coupon!

When I got on, the attendant took my dinner order. I ordered the chicken, but when they brought it, they brought the pasta entre instead. I notified them about the error, but when they brought the chicken, she said she would leave both. (I had taken one of the fold out tables, so there was plenty of room.) So I got 2 meals from BOS to NYP!

At NYP, I went to the CA to wait the 1 hour for my connecting Regional to WAS.

The AE passed thru KIN "slow" - at "only" 148 MPH!

This train departed NYP at 10:05 PM and was scheduled to arrive WAS at 1:25 AM. I sat in the QC, which is located directly behind the BC car. I noticed that they dimmed the lights in the QC, but not in BC at all.

As I said, the train was scheduled to arrive at 1:25 AM. However, due to the HEAVY rain, we were delayed until almost 2 AM! Just south of BWI, it was so hard in fact that the rain could be heard against the windows AND on the Amroof!

I really didn't mind the delay because of 1) it meant more train time
mosking.gif
and 2) it reduced my turn time from 1:25 AM until 3:15 AM down to just over 1 hour.

#190 departed WAS on time at 3:15 AM. I had purchased a $15 ticket from WAS to BAL and used a 3K AGR award BAL-KIN. (I also used a 3K AGR award NYP-WAS.) The point run ended at KIN about 20 minutes late at 10:20 AM on Wednesday morning!

Although using the AGR awards resulted in (a still respectable) 3.8¢/point, all together I earned (between the 100 point minimum, select city pairs, 25% bonus for being Select, 2x points and AGR for Business earnings) over 2,300 AGR points for this point run!

I also received a voucher for the unused portion of my unused tickets that I bought these tickets with!

I am very impressed with what you accomplished on your short trip at the last minute. You almost have to be a rocket scientist to figure out which trains you can take to give you the most points for the least amount of money.

You did not mention whether you ate both meals. :giggle:

Sounds like a fun and profitable points run!! I didn't realise that the Acela

ran at late/early hours. Was the train crowded at that hour?

Glad you enjoyed two entrees.

Actually the 5:20 PM AE (and I believe one more) only run from BOS to NYP. The NYP-WAS run was on a Regional. Returning, the 3:15 AM and 4 AM runs are Regionals. I think the first AE is around 5 AM.

I'm cheap!
laugh.gif
I'd rather take the $95 AE run than the $140 AE run!

BTW: That's something I left out of my trip report.

The 5:20 AE from BOS to NYP was still low bucket - less than 4 hours from departure!
