Does Amtrak still have a sleeping car rider lounge in Traxx Bar in Union Station?

Ive seen it both ways in travel logs but there is nothing in the amtrak web site or literature

about this??I will be riding SSL to LA from SAS, then the Coast Starlight to Martinex the next

morning after a night in LA??? Thanks!!! :)

First, jimhudson, welcome aboard Amtrak Unlimited!

Yes, the Traxx bar - across the main waiting room from the Traxx Restaurant - is still being used as a sort of First Class Lounge for departing Coast Starlight (train 14) sleeper passengers ONLY. It's not availlable for any other trains. You'll want to check in there, and if time permits perhaps enjoy some snacks and beverages.

Welcome!

As Whooz said, the Traxx Lounge is ONLY available for sleeping car passengers departing on the Coast Starlight! It is not available for those arriving on the CS or for any other train - either departing or arriving!

Which lounge would that be?

EDIT: Never mind, I don't read so good today.

Union Station has a Traxx Restaurant (which is very very good though pricey) and a Traxx Bar (which is associated with but across the lobby from the Restaurant, and which is open to the public). I'm not sure I have ever seen the Traxx lounge, but it might be the roped off area of chairs & tables between the Traxx Bar and Union Bagel. But regardless of what train you are taking, or even if you're not taking a train at all, you can always sit at the Traxx Bar -- it is a great place to people watch and have a drink.

Is there Wifi in LAX?
Don't think so, but not positive either way. In March I was waiting in the Traxx bar/lounge (same thing) area for sleeper passengers with AU member saxman66 to board train 14. Cranked up the laptop to see if there was WiFi, but the call for boarding came just as it finished booting; that was that - had to shut down and get on the train.

Closest WiFi that I know for certain is a couple blocks away at Philippe's French dip sandwich joint. At our L.A. Gathering last October, AU member gswager checked his e-mail at Philippe's while we grabbed a bite, and I've seen others there working online as well.

EDIT: I'm at Union Station (LAX) pretty often, and should know the WiFi situation, but fact is if I have time to kill I'm usually up on the platforms taking pictures.

I had to plug in my CDMA "AirCard" (which roamed on Verizon at insanely slow speeds) in order to surf the Internet while waiting to board the CS last May. I also didn't notice a WiFi connection on my iPhone there in August (though half the time I ignore WiFi connections in 3G coverage areas because 3G is virtually as fast and is less hassle).

There may have been a WiFi connection that required paid access (e.g. T-Mobile or Boingo or something), but I ignore and forget those. There's definitely nothing freely available there.
