Great video, and perfect for the General Rail Discussions forum. Making dome cars worthwhile is about the only clear advantage (a big one!) I see in single-level equipment.

Great Video! Thanks for sharing. It reminds me of trips I took back in the late 50s/early 60s. A couple of interesting things; the cab arrives at Chicago Union Station on the outside, but the interior is Chiacgo Dearborn where the Santa Fe Chief actually departed from. The Chief carried the Observation Car that was shown, but for the Dome Car, the showed the Super Chief's Pleasure Dome. The Chief eventually carried a Big Dome Car that was added in the mid 1950s. It was very similar to the Great Dome from the Empire Builder that still operates on Amtrak. They also showed Bobby eating lunch in a counter lounge car. I did not know the Chief ever carried one of those. They were usually used on Santa Fe secondary trains like the Grand Canyon. The Santa Fe really took good care of its passengers.

Nifty video. Not only has the Lamy station not changed (I got a decent look at it one evening while the SWC was waiting for a rowdy passenger to be escorted to...alternative accommodations for the evening, and another look at it during the daytime another time), but the video of Raton Pass and the tunnel there showed virtually no change, either.

Hi,

Nice video... is the observation (rearmost) car the same one that is in the Science museum in Chicago?

Also wondering if car #1550 is still in use... no surprise that the trains don't get such a clean these days!
