Where do you want to go in 2013, and on what route(s)?

I hope to go back to Bent, NM, to see some very good friends and make a lot of music with them. The basic trip is LSL BOS-CHI, then SWC CHI-ABQ. However, it might be nice to try going to El Paso instead, which is actually slightly closer to my final destination than ABQ. If I do it using agr points, it is still a 2 zone trip, but gives me an extra night on the train plus new territory for me.

Anyone else have a wish list of trips?

Unless there's a bungee cord attached, falling off the cliff pretty much kills any chance for me to take any trips next year. :(

We hope to be able to take another coast-to-coast trip to Virginia. Haven't seen the grandkids for 2 years, and that's just not acceptable! But I'm like AmtrakBlue. There may not be anything in the budget for that this year. I do have over 25,000 AGR but have no idea how to use them. I guess that's for another topic.

I feel your pain - maybe. I don't know your situation.

But I am all for anyone who makes more than $250K having a VERY hard landing at the bottom of that "cliff". Those of us that do about 10% of that are used to the gravel at the bottom of the cliff. But the fall isn't too far.

I didn't start this thread based on politics. Just sayin'.

Can we post wish list trips that came true too?

Booked 3 for sure and the two that are still on the list are Santa Fe and Glenwood Springs but I intend to do both this year.

Woo hoo!

CHI - NOL - CHI

CHI -DAL - CHI

CHI - PDX - SEA -CHI

We'd really like to take the CZ from Chicago to Emeryville to visit our friends in San Francisco.

My best long distance trips have been to see my grand daughters, but now that they have moved back to Maine, I have to find other destinations!

I hope you get to do the traveling you wish for... best wishes for 2013.

Well if you haven't done it before, be prepared to be amazed by the Rockies and the Sierra Nevada.

Happy New Year from Maine!

It may not be a roomette but you have more than enough points for a 3 zone round trip in coach from the either coast (10,500 each way) - if you don't have a problem with sleeping in coach - heck, it's free!

You can book a coach class AGR trip online too.

Coach Class - Three ZonesShow More Item#: 1054 10,500 pts BOOK

You can go see those grand kids without a problem. .

I have several trips on my wish list, the first being WOR-SLM via the LSL/TE/CS then AC to EUG then CS/PS to SAN then SWC/LSL to TOL then home to WOR. this one starts in mid-february. I also have trips planned during the baseball season to see Red Sox games on the road, April in CLE, May in FTW & STP, June in BAL & DET, July in SEA & OKJ, Sept. in DEN. Then if I have not died from all this train travel, I am either going back to FTW to visit my brother for Thanksgiving or Christmas, but not traveling during the busy weeks can stay longer to miss the craziness.

Hoping to make it to Chi-Town for a bit with my Brother. Poor guy has never been on a train longer then 5 hours and I'm going to try to convince the guy to head to Chicago. But I have a good route picked.

66 PHL-BOS BC

449 BOS-CHI Roomette

30 CHI-WAS Roomette or Bedroom... Depends on buckets.

NER WAS-PHL

That way he experiences sleeping on a train in three different ways. Sleeping on 66 isn't that bad once you get comfortable in BC. I could be a complete jerk and shove us in Coach. But I'm looking out for him. Try to make the first overnight trip a good one for him.

I have a wish list trip for June to Chicago from PA for a convention. Never been that far west before.

Then next Dec/Jan, we would like to go to New Orleans on the Crescent. Never been that south west before.

Then of course some short trips around the NEC.

The Rocky Mountaineer is incredible but incredibly expensive. I have taken the Canadian to Jasper several times and rented a car there.

The scenery around Glacier NP (Montana USA) is just as nice as the Canadian Rockies. Since you were planning on taking the EB back to Chicago anyway just get off for 24 hours in Whitefish and rent a car there.

I'd like to make it back to New York City, possibly for National Train Day, or maybe another Northeastern city for NTD. Unfortunately this has a low chance of being possible, but I gotta think ahead of time if it's to happen at all!

Nope, haven't done the trip yet. I'm pretty excited to see the CZ and the EB.

Happy New Year from Michigan! :hi:

Still hoping to fly to Denver and take the CZ to the southbound CS sometime next summer. I've given up on being able to do both on the same AGR, but did buy my max points the other day. Sister-in-law says she'll go with me, we haven't made definite plans yet. Hubby and I always wanted to take the CZ through the Rockies.

Happy 2013, everyone!

I would like to somehow incorporate the New Orleans - San Antonio segment of the SL into a trip this year. If I do that, then I will have ridden every mile of every long distance train west of the Mississippi River. :)

To AU Gathering: Where ever that might be :p
Good point Bill! :) I need to go back and add it to my wish list.

My only excuse for not including it the first time?

It isn't until October, and when I made my list I wasn't thinking THAT far ahead :eek:hboy:

...but October, and The G, will be here before I know it. :help:
