As per the subject... there's a huge ( nearly 1000 rider ) yearly bike trip along the Erie Canal in NY between Buffalo and Albany, and a substantial number of people use the Maple Leaf to return to the start with their bikes.
As of a couple days ago, Amtrak started notifying people that they have removed bike service from the train, and since the ride starts next week, it has royally messed up plans for a lot of people. While Empire Service still offers bike slots on the appropriate days, they were all snapped up, leaving a lot of people in the lurch.
Based on what posters in the ride group have said, none of the customer service people have explained why they cancelled the bike reservations, and people with Empire Service and LSL bike reservations are worried that it will happen on those lines, too.
