Looks like flooding in Vermont has also caused the Ethan Allen to be canceled and the Vermonters north of NHV.
North of SPG, but yes.Looks like flooding in Vermont has also caused the Ethan Allen to be canceled and the Vermonters north of NHV.
Photo of the damage along the Green Mountain Railroad in Ludlow from @henrysweatherchannel on Instagram. Note that neither the Vermonter or Ethan Allen travels on this track.
They are going to truncate it at New Haven during the suspension. Typically for longer term cancellations they do that as using the wye at Springfield can result in a delayed departure for the southbound and there are other trains that people can be accommodated on. Often CSX won’t let Amtrak cross their territory to wye a Vermonter train until 449 is through Springfield. This results in a delayed departure. 448/449 (and often freight trains as well) usually get preferential dispatching over other Amtrak trains that have to cross the diamond at Springfield. When actually running all the way the northbound Vermonter often has to wait for 449 as well. Have been on a late southbound Vermonter also where we had to sit and wait for 449.North of SPG, but yes.
Best of luck to everyone there in your state. My town had "normal" every-few-years flooding, but there is some SERIOUS widespread damage out there in other parts of the state. We tend to rebound pretty quickly from these things, fortunately. With a limited paving season there is a sense of urgency.
Another couple of inches of rain are forecast for today. That would not be a big deal in normal times, but the ground is completely saturated so they are expecting some more flooding.
