A brief account from my brother, who booked well in advance to take his wife for a five-night escape from rainy Oregon to sunny Santa Barbara, departing Portland on Feb 3, 2024. An atmospheric river resulted in a change of plans.

"We had a bedroom on Train 11. Great food and running close to schedule in spite of a rockslide near Redding. But it terminated in Emeryville due to flooding on the Central Coast. We detoured on the San Joaquin to Bakersfield, with a bus connection to Santa Barbara. Pouring rain when we arrived, but the hotel was only two blocks from the depot and the weather improved later in the week."
