It ran the short way, across Ontario back then. The border crossings just took minutes, and only international passengers were inspected. Thru passengers were not bothered. Unfortunately, I don’t believe they would do that today.And Amtrak kept the NYC-Detroit train until 1978, 14 hours each way (and then dropped it in favor of Niagara Falls and Toronto.) Does anyone happen to know whether it did a good business or not?
I rode the train, and the best I could recall, was just a handful of international passengers, and maybe two full cars between Buffalo and Detroit. I can’t be certain…it was a long time ago…
