449 got here 1/2 hr late, only to find 49 will be 1.25 hrs late, we'll probably roll out of here around 8:30.

Hey, wifi at ALB! Cool!

Funny thing on 449 listening to the scanner, the engineer reported the engine toilet was "out of fluid" and suspected the drain plug was loose back at Springfield. Hope they were looking at dry flushes until ALB.

Going to be a late dinner tonite...

On the road from NHV-SPG-ALB-CHI-LAX-EMY; 4 days on the train!

PS

Somebody ask me about melons on the Colorado River...

When we left ALB in June the NY segment was running 1:10 late. There was pizza served in the lower section for waiting LSL passengers. Did you get pizza served tonight

Ended up 2 hr late, but they sucked it up and sat us down in the diner for most of the dinner menu.

OK I will bite

So if you've been on the Zephyr you may be clued in to the "Amtrak Salute" given by the river rafters. Something to do with full moons.

Dutifully watching for such lunar (annular?) risings, I was watching out of the corridor side of the bedrooms on our sleeper when I see 2 dudes about to launch their raft from the far shore. One was waving both arms overhead, very friendly in his attempt to attract attention from the train. The other guy was holding up 2 melons about chest high.

"Wait..." I said to the pax standing with me, "those aren't melons...."

and no, no pictures :(

Those of us who have had our semi-circular canals imbalanced by the full moon phenomena on the Colorado autta have have special golf shirts made up that states:
