My guess: $30 or $35 with tip. CTA Orange Line will get you there for $2.50.

Uber is out, only dumb phone. Does the orange line need exact change? what exit (stop)? how will know it is the orange line? Only been in Chicago once (in modern times) and then only in the Loop.

At Midway it's pretty easy. Follow the signs that say "Train to City." You should be able to buy a $3 ticket from a vending machine at or near the station (the ticket is now $3) and the machine should take credit cards or make change. The Orange Line is the only one that picks up at Midway, and all trains go to the city.

I'd take the Orange Line. It's quite easy.

However, the orange line doesn't drop you at Union Station proper . You would have to walk from Quincy Station about 0.4 miles. (or taxi from there).

He's spending the night, so probably trying to get to a hotel.If he tells us where the hotel is, someone can tell him which stop(s) are closest and which of those have elevators.

I'd consider spending the night out by Midway Airport, then taking the Orange Line to the Loop in the morning. There are a variety of chain hotels a few blocks south of Midway on Cicero Avenue that are usually cheaper than hotels downtown.

If you are staying at the Club Quarters on Adams, take the Orange Line to the Adams/Wabash stop. The hotel is half a block down Adams. The north entrance of CUS is on Adams, so you could easily get a cab or walk(depending on luggage) west on Adams to CUS the following day.

I would second the nomination for Club Quarters. Stayed there last year and it is very convenient for both L riding and to CUS.

I third the nomination. I stayed at the Club Quarters on Wacker (same design, just a different location) and really liked it.

I have always been pleasantly surprised at the cost of a taxi in Chicago. From Union Station to my hotel (for a variety of hotels) has ranged from $6 to just under $9, before tip.

We go to Chicago two or three times a year to visit our daughter. Lucky for us our town has an Amtrak station so it is easy to get there.

We use the trains or busses to get around. The trains we used have maps of the stops in them for you can keep track of your progress and announcements and signs indicating the next stop.

We live in a town that has a taxi. We adapted easily and quickly to their mass transits system.
