Here is a wild one.
My wife and I boarded 41(7) at South Bend, IN - traditionally a station with luggage service. We were planning on checking 2 bags plus my bike (under the normal bike reservation).
When we arrived at SOB, we discovered only a "caretaker" - not the normal full service...
Because of an electrical issue, we are currently about six hours late leaving Pittsburgh on 41 (7).
Just curious - does anyone have a feel for how late the train needs to be before they'll annul the train in DC?
Just curious.
Thanks - you are probably right. Railforless is a tool I haven't used in a while. Wow have they improved it.
After playing around with railforless.us, (thanks Cal!) it looks like $740 is high bucket...
Does anyone know what high bucket is these days for the Floridian Roomette CHI to WAS ?
Another question: the Floridian is going to be getting another sleeper in March, that's already been decided according to the Rail Passengers Association. When do they actually add the capacity into the...
So as usual around this time of year - which car(s) is a VI and which is a VII is a mystery. And with a train like 40/41 that is frequently sold out, a last minute move once the mystery is solved is not usually possible.
Sigh...
Thanks for the info. I'll be on the Floridian for my trips - since I live in the Midwest and now take that train instead of transferring trains in the east coast to the Meteor or (now-dormant) Star.
Just called to move from the 10 sleeper to the 11 sleeper on a couple of Floridian itineraries in March - hoping to switch to a VLII roomette.
On March 7-9, the CSR said they were sold out. On March 13th, the CSR said the 10 & 11 cars were full but the 12 car was available. So it sounds like...
I am currently on 21 heading to Longview, and ultimately to Houston for the Lions – Texans game. Lifelong Lions fan - I always enjoy getting to road games on Amtrak.
I drove over from Indianapolis to Bloomington-Normal and picked up the Eagle there. First time I've used that station. Like a...
This is an interesting train - even though it is temporary.
Personally, I like the fact they are trying it. Yes - I totally understand the timekeeping implications and all the other reasons why it might be a bad idea - but in my mind they are dealing with a couple of real issues (Superliner...
I disagree. Their share was a grand total of $3 million. And plenty of people rode the train, even though it had a lousy schedule.
And for their 3 million savings, they paved about half a mile of freeway… which already needs repaving.
Somehow Amtrak is the only one that seens to have "issues" with the new equipment.
I'm sitting on the Wolverine and we made it a whole 20 minutes before we stopped due to a brake pressure issue.
My money is on Amtrak Chicago being the issue and not Siemens.
The other thing that comes to mind...
Just curious - if both locos were GE or both Siemens - would they have to switch positions in order for the backup loco to take over?
I thought I remembered that you could control another locomotive from the lead position.
Thanks for the info - that's interesting. It was a late night / early morning. But Amtrak was fair with us. They stored my bike at the Miami station so I could come back for it at a decent hour (we arrived in Miami at 3:45am). And unsolicited they sent a reasonable voucher for future travel.
