I will be in Denver in a couple weeks. Unfortunately due to time constraints and the absurd price of sleepers, I'm flying, but would like to do a day trip west of Denver. I've already done CHI-DEN. Based on the OTP and the numer of things to explore in the surrounding area, especially in case of a late train, what is best: Winter Park, Granby, or Glenwood Springs? I would only be able to do Glenwood Springs if #6 is very delayed. I'm willing to make a last-minute ticket change in case of an extremely late train.

Too bad they don't have the Ski Trains running all year, and travelling farther west than Winter Park. The train is late sometimes, but there are five Bustang buses leaving Denver going west towards Grand Junction.
I've thought about some traveling using them as they not only travel the main routes I-70 and I-25 but a number of other routes to various destinations.
They look like they could make a fun trip, but the timing and frequency would take some study.

I did a day trip Denver to Granby once - Granby is a nice town for a layover. It's a small town just up the hill from the depot. Some nice local restaurants for lunch.
I agree with Granby. If a wild delay occurred westbound, it's most likely to be known in time for you to either scrap the trip or turn back at Fraser-Winter Park.
Granby has a rail museum, but you might not have time to visit it.
