Today, 11/3, Lorton-Sanford. As usual I checked the status on my app many times before leaving my home at dawn. No problem reported. At 14:30 arriving cars were backed up along the road. Duh. Northbound train was just arriving, 6 hours late. Waited in car 2 hours, another 2 in station. Remarkably we boarded at 17:30 and departure was 19:30,fast turnaround considering how late train got in. What boggles the mind is how they could not update info anywhere and how nasty the people at check-in (booth outside & desk) were. Don't tell me they were stressed. The passengers were stressed from being kept in the dark. The text announcing the delay came at 17:30, after we dropped our cars off. Finally once we boarded at least the conductor got on the PA and gave us a detailed explanation, updated ETA and actually apologized for the delay and the lack of info in the station. To paraphrase the old commercial, "Is this any way to run a railroad?"

Apparently there have been problems with the Auto Train all week. And it appears as though it was cancelled in both directions yesterday. What is happening? Was it an accident that caused the delays to compound?

I think once the delays get too far out of hand they cancel both trains to reset the operation. I’m not sure why the delays occurred.
