I finally got a chance to watch the documentary, it was well done so thanks for posting it. Conductor Brad sure enjoyed his work.
Brad was one of the people who got this going. He was familiar with the previous versions of the ski train and wrote up a business plan for an Amtrak edition.

Don’t really see any reason to doubt it. When they said they were putting the diner back on the City of New Orleans and Crescent this past year they pretty much followed through on it.
That doesn't make their words 2/2 though. There have been so many times we've been told traditional dining was coming back on trains and yet it hasn't.

When did Amtrak announce traditional dining on a train and then not restore it?
Exactly. There have been rumors reported - but any of the ones where there have been official announcements have happened. Amtrak announced restoration to the Silvers and then that it would be expanded to the Capitol route with the Floridian and it indeed occurred. They have expressed a desire to restore it to the Eagle but included a funding caveat - but they have only said they would like to with sufficient funding so far not commitment has been made.

Agree with @Tom C . As reported earlier from the Board meeting, there doesn’t seem much doubt that the Eagle will get its SSL back in March:

“Amtrak President Roger Harris confirmed to News Wire after the session that the Texas Eagle is slated to see its Sightseer Lounge car return in March and a third Viewliner sleeping car will be added to the Chicago-Miami Floridian about the same time.”

In the Texas Eagle Discussion thread, the only thing I had seen was that a "crew rumor" said that the SSL and traditional dining were coming back. Crew rumors are unreliable, and there were numerous times where crews have told us traditional dining was coming back for various trains and then it didn't. If the Board said the SSL is coming back, however, I trust that. If the board didn't say anything about traditional dining though, not holding my breath.
