    Does Amtrak overbook?

On the Corridor, it’s also much more likely a passenger will buy a ticket for train A and end up taking train B. So even if a train isn’t overbooked it could end up short seats. When you’ve got a full Regional train with 600+ passengers, conductors don’t always have time to stop and rebook every...

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion 2024 H2

With soon-to-be Hurricane Milton approaching, the following service adjustments have been made: 91 and 97 with originations of 10/7-10/10 terminate in JAX with no alternate transportation. 92 and 98 with originations of 10/8-10/11 originate JAX with no alternate transportation. 52 and 53...

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

The bridge over the Pearl River near Slidell, LA failed an inspection a few days ago. Trains are turning at Atlanta.

    Auto Train discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

No, Auto Train does not have a quiet car where talking is not allowed. However, devices that emit sound must be used with headphones at all times according to policy.

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Not trying to quash your idea too harshly, but that's a hard no for so, so many reasons. Longer published schedules will deter ridership more than lack of a dining car. Longer schedules equals more payroll hours. Crew change points aren't established around meal times. There are no Harvey...

    Amtrak Phase VII livery discussion

The GP-38 rebuilds do not have HEP or even HEP pass through and are only good for 65 MPH. Therefore, they must be shipped via freight railroads for off corridor moves.

CSX collison in Folkston, GA affecting Silvers and Auto Train

There was a signal suspension in place, thus PTC was not operating. Trains were operating under paper authority from the dispatcher. The switches at Folkston were being handled by a switch tender, also under direction of the dispatcher, verses every train stopping to line their route. It appears...

    Northeast Regional discussion 2022-2024 H1

Seating configuration changes are coming soon. Over the first weekend of March, Amfleet I trains along the Northeast Corridor will begin operating with fixed seating configurations with half the seats facing forward and half backwards. This includes all NE Regional trains, the Carolinian, Empire...

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024 H1

Not enough crew to handle six extra trains through Raleigh. Also, RGH had already recrewed not one, but two, trespasser strikes over that route last night. Both 91 and 92 had critical incidents. The reroute also adds about 3 hours running time, assuming CSX can get the surge of extra trains...

    Email/Text Notification of Ticket scanning?

I've seen this situation very few times and space was always opened up and the reservation reinstated. Although, in light of the recent policy change, this is now a non-issue. Ding. Ding. Ding.

    Email/Text Notification of Ticket scanning?

If your ticket is NOT scanned and ends up canceled as a No Show, an e-mail it sent stating there is a problem with your reservation along with an invitation to call Amtrak. If you call and advise you did travel, Amtrak will reinstate the reservation.

Piedmont and North Carolina DOT Service discussion

All the Piedmont sets and crews will start and end at Raleigh. The Carolinian is the only one crewed from Charlotte. That crew does the round trip on 80/79 same day. There is a new layover facility built just south of the new station that can accommodate multiple trains overnight, but I doubt...

PTC "Server disruption" service issue (March 2023)

Right, because a bus on a highway is so much safer, statistically, than a train without PTC. My impression is the issue is on Amtrak's server-side, hence why MARC isn't affected.

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

Brightline will probably design, construct and start operations between Orlando and Tampa before Amtrak goes 3.5 miles further to the already built Miami Airport station.

Why can GPS issues delay a train 45 minutes?

To travel a little further down Acronym Lane, I-ETMS stands for Interoperable Electronic Train Management System. It's the system from Wabtec and what most PTC implementations around the country are based on.

    Atlantic Coast Service discussion

Not that it makes any difference to your completely valid argument that the fleet is woefully underutilized, there are only 74 sleepers on the roster. One Viewliner I Sleeper was stricken from the roster after Cayce, SC.
