    Southwest Chief discussion

It looks like last night's #3 was towed back by a BNSF engine to ABQ early in the morning. It went through Gallup about 4am.

    Southwest Chief discussion

Initial reports said it might be a hazardous spill, but later reports say the tankers were carrying corn syrup.

    Southwest Chief discussion

The Chief has a disruption due to a washout in Arizona near the California border (between Kingman and Needles). Last night's trains terminated at Winslow (#3) and Barstow (#4). Today's #3 will terminate in Albuquerque, and become tomorrow's #4. BNSF is expecting to get one track open tomorrow.

No, it's not. Newport to Spokane is abandoned.

    Freight interference in northern NM?

There should be zero freights. There was track work going on a few months ago, but I don't know if it's still an issue.

Should I bring my Passport while traveling on Amtrak?

I have seen ICE take people off the Sunset Limited in Del Rio, TX. I have not been personally questioned, though.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

Ok, I'm late replying. But it doesn't -- it has to be in an area where a person checks your ID first.

    Acela 2151 Stalled in Queens

Really, the only thing that makes sense is that the brakes were stuck on and they couldn't get them to release. Otherwise, they should have been able to tow it to a station.

Amtrak #6(17) Collided with SUV in Iowa

There was another collision with a garbage truck very close to here back in October.

Maybe no cellphone coverage is not always a negative for Amtrak?

Even back in the day, you weren't totally unplugged. I remember when you got a morning newspaper in the sleepers.

Checking up on Amtrak's (lack of) ADA compliance

The wheelchair lift was out at Flagstaff tonight for #3, so it's definitely there and working. It was for a person not in a wheelchair but who couldn't manage the steps.

Checking up on Amtrak's (lack of) ADA compliance

I was at the station back in November, and there's a wheelchair lift there. I also saw on the camera recently where they used a ramp to have a wheelchair passenger come out for a smoke.

I’m on the TE/SL that’s having mechanical issues UPDATE: We are about 14 hours late

You can definitely be banned from future travel if you bail out at an unauthorized place. Opening the door when it says not to breaks the "Who refuse to comply with safety or security rules or with instructions of Amtrak personnel" term. Arrest? Probably not, though it's technically trespassing...

Measuring the Ventilation in Amtrak Superliner Sleepers

My experience is that the temperature knob only controls a baseboard heater by the window. The heat comes out of the holes under the window. So this means: It only works if the heater is activated and working. They seem to deactivate them in warm weather, and even if it's cold you can't rely on...
