    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Yep! Unfortunately, our train is now the always late Crescent which not stops in Greenville in the middle of the night. The new schedule is most inconvenient for us.

They were very good. My wife and I always got them when available and added a splash of white wine to the sauce!

Upcoming Amtrak LD Schedule Changes (2021)

If this is true, it makes the Greenville stop really late headed north the way I usually travel, it supposedly arrives around 11pm now but normally an hour or more late. Add 2 hrs to the time of departure it makes it very inconvenient. Coming back two hours later as mentioned n another post...

    Seaboard92 Is Taking Off

Congrats on the new gig! I know that you’ve been looking for this kind of position for awhile. Hope you get the Charlotte base since that would allow you to stay here in SC. Good luck and we all look forward to reading your further reports on your travels and adventures.

Comparing Amtrak B/R fare to First Class Air Fare

I’m traveling from Greenville SC to Baltimore for my granddaughter’s graduation this month and intended to take the Crescent but here’s what I discovered. Because the graduation is on a Monday, and the Crescent runs only3 days a week, it is impossible to do the trip without staying for at...

    Viewliner Sleeper Bathroom Question

Somehow, having your own private bathroom that you can keep clean, not to mention being able to go in the middle of the night in your room, is a big plus to me not gross!

    Is Portland, OR Safe?

I am wondering if all would agree that “ small dollar shoplifting” should be ignored if it were taking place in their house? I myself, agree with the “broken windows” theory of law enforcement but also agree that if a law isn’t to be enforced, it should be removed from the books.

How will rail advocacy be shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic?

I telecommuted first over 10 years. The good part is no commute! it takes a lot of discipline to maintain a work environment and professional attitude. It is absolutely necessary that any others in the house respect the sanctity of one’s workspace. The negatives are lack of personal contact...

    High Speed Rail in China

As long as I get to decide what the “needs” of the many are. Frankly, I like each of us getting to choose what our particular “needs” are!

    Favorite snacks to bring onboard

We like the little Nutella packs. Costco sells a box with a number of them. We always grab a few when we go on a trip.

NY Times: Anderson out, William Flynn in

I'd be glad to continue this via PM . I'll just say this further, everyone says it is the congressional mandate that is the problem. I disagree and say it is improper accounting. I disagree with your statement. If your statement is correct, then all meals are free and no matter how cheap one...

NY Times: Anderson out, William Flynn in

Yes, meals consumed are accounted for - that is the amount of food consumed, but as I pointed out,, the revenue is what the passenger paid to AMTRAK. The portion properly attributed to f&b of that ticket price had nothing to do with the amount consumed.

NY Times: Anderson out, William Flynn in

Actually, the “published” price for a meal paid for by Coach passengers is irrelevant. When you buy a sleeper ticket you pay for the most expensive meal for however many meals on board. Whether or not you eat a meal or not you have paid for it and should be credited to revenue. I doubt that...

NY Times: Anderson out, William Flynn in

Again, with respect to the f&b mandate, the discussion of accounting for revenue is missing. The very high sleeper price includes the meals but no indication as to the portion of the ticket price which is allocated to f&b. It is likely that a shift in the allocation would cure any “apparent”...

Way to cut down losses on long distance trains

This reminds me of an interview while I was living in Richmond Va with the director of the toll facilities about the increase in tolls. When it was pointed out that the reason for the revenue problem was directly caused by the fact the the tolls road were not being used, and it was suggested...

My wife always take the top bunk. She is much more agile than I am. I have offered to go up top but she always insists.
