Seeking itinerary suggestions: PVD to Ocean City (MD) or Elmira (NY)

When I went to Ocean City last summer, I went to WIL and then took a rental car. The Greyhound option would seem to be good for you.

I think the SCA was older than I was

Penny: You are correct. I know the SCA on the Meteor you are referring to. She is a gem! Always made our day when she was our SCA!

Amtrak teases upgraded bedding/amenities for sleeping cars

It is one thing to improperly burden the cost (twice or otherwise incorrect amount) but add to that the lack of a credit to revenue from a proper apportionment of the sleeper charge, and you will understand that the Congressional mandate is not the cause of the F&B issues but improper accounting...

Amtrak teases upgraded bedding/amenities for sleeping cars

You’ve got it. As I have repeatedly said, the sleeper charge includes the amount of revenue for all possible meals times the number of possible occupants, however, here is no evidence that AMTRAK actually so credits revenue. The brownie is just a great example of this!

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

Attacking voters who vote for people you don’t like does not contribute to civil discussion. There are no perfect people who run for office and until there is such a person, there will be legitimate reasons to have differing opinions about the candidates. What has been the remarkable and...

New Coach Seating Procedure: Long Distance Trains on NEC

Traveling on VIA this fall (3 different trains), I had assigned seats each time. I was even asked if I wanted to sit facing forward or backwards and was given the best window seat. Seems like it can be done, if AMTRAK wanted to and cared!

    No ID

The only time I was ever ID checked was in Winter Park, Florida. We were getting on the Silver Meteor heading back to Boca and the Conductor asked to see my ID. My wife started to get hers out and the Conductor said:"I don't need to see yours, just his." I showed mine and got on the train...

Way to cut down losses on long distance trains

Interesting observations, however in your discussion of F&B costs, I note there is no discussion of F&B revenue. The meals for sleeper passengers are not “free”, they have been prepaid by the sleeper passengers whether they eat them or not. Until revenue is properly accounted for, there will...

For $3,500, a Most Putrid Stench

This happened to us on the CL last year. We were given several theories of the cause by the SCA and Conductor but nothing for which there was a possible solution. I guess we should have sought a voucher.

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

On our recent trip from Greenville, SC to NYP on the Crescent, here are pictures of what was offered for breakfast: The Sleeping Car attendant advised that there were no breakfast sandwiches since they were all eaten by the New Orleans passengers the previous day. Note there was one banana (...

    Richard Anderson quote 11/5

When you buy a sleeper ticket, the price you pay includes the meals. Thus, the price you pay is the revenue AMTRAK receives. To properly allocate the portion of that revenue to F&B is not made up revenue but proper accounting. To only count the price that a coach passenger would pay for that...

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

It was late at night when we stopped at Winnipeg (traveling East) so no refreshments were offered as far as I know( I was asleep).

    Richard Anderson quote 11/5

Cutting the cost of F&B service deals with only one aspect of the equation. No mention of the revenue side or how it is calculated. One can just as easily cut losses by increasing the revenue side and with The expensive sleeper, the answer is allocating the proper amount of F&B revenue from...
