If anything, Thameslink proves the need for Penn Station South because Thameslink has its own King Cross station alongside the ancient stub end one. There was no BS about widening its platforms by cappng over tracks that would magically increase capacity and whining about political feifdoms...

There is zero chance they will keep a spare train set in DC for anything. If they annul an inbound train from Chicago, they will annul the outbound and turn the train headed from Florida right back.
