    Empire Builder discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Positive food / alcohol reinforcement will encourage them to hang out by RR tracks. Bears are not stupid and reason by association.

    East River Tunnels rehabilitation 2024-2027

There are things that Amtrak should have seriously considered, which is their responsibility, not DOT's: 1) Separate trains 63 and 69 once it arrives from SSY at around 645am doggy-style. Send 63 on its way at 7:15am. Send 69 straight out to the yard just west of Penn Station, then back in...

    VIA New Corridor Trains - 2021 - 2024 Updates

Will they eventually have locos and cab cars laying around ? How long does it take to uncouple and couple these cars ?

    VIA New Corridor Trains - 2021 - 2024 Updates

I think the addition of the cafe car with tables is to mimic the old business model of ONR's GO-Carts with interiors refiitted identically to Amtrak's Heritage lounge cars, and not to be like VIA Rail with service trolleys, which ONR evidently does not want to be bothered with, continually...

    VIA New Corridor Trains - 2021 - 2024 Updates

I was only going by this picture https://railfan.com/ontario-government-purchases-siemens-trainsets/ The far end looks like a cab car

How much corn spilled ? Bears have been rumored to feast on derailed, fermented, spilled corn, get drunk, and act more unpredictably than normal.

    VIA New Corridor Trains - 2021 - 2024 Updates

VIA had been planning on both 3 and 7 car Ventures. ONR is procuring 3 car Ventures. What now ?

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

They (Boardman, Lautenberg, Gardner as Hill staffer) came up 750 miles to draw a Sharpie line between the Carolinan (704) and Capitol Limited (780) and of course exempt the NEC spine (457). Anderson/Gardner's/Coscia's "National Network 2" of 2018 would have slashed the LD network from 15 to 5...

    Keystone Corridor discussion

Then the 2 Amfleet-2 coaches that they used to lengthen the Pennsylvanians by 1 car can be sent to Floridian service. Maybe that's why they wrapped up early.

Andy Byford's plan for Penn Station

Still and all, Thameslink connected a pair of lines to the northern suburbs to a pair in the southern suburbs with dual voltage MU trains. They also found an abandoned tunnel to facilitate it. Manhattan does not have that, Thameslink is not universal thru running, they didn't rip out stub...

Andy Byford's plan for Penn Station

Of course, you'e right. But that is what thru running fans do (Rethink, TSTC) - deflect attention away from here to Europe. Many a times I have brought up, such as to Liam Blank at Tri-State lately on Linked In (he must have thought that was a safe space from criticism) how it would be done...

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2024)

I thought the cafe version would be a married pair to a coach, so how do they do this move ? Marry a cafe to a cafe ?

Andy Byford's plan for Penn Station

If anything, Thameslink proves the need for Penn Station South because Thameslink has its own King Cross station alongside the ancient stub end one. There was no BS about widening its platforms by cappng over tracks that would magically increase capacity and whining about political feifdoms...

    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

My guess is they put the Pittsburgh passengers, including Pennsylvanian refugees, in it, so not much commotion at Elkhart, and that car would be rather empty the rest of the way. Not much schlepping through the trans-dorm for breakfast.

    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Could there have been a large number of transcon misconnects from the day before ? How many SL coaches were there if 5 Superliners in all ? They also had to go through the trouble of finding a SL trans-dorm to have it in the consist. LSL is a fairly easy deadhead move for Downeaster serrvice...

Airo - Amfleet I replacement Siemens Inter City Trainsets (ICT) (2-3Q 2024)

Will the Cascade ones be solid train sets or married pair of cars like Chicago's ?

    Amtrak P42C cab car

Do you see them in service now that they have moved onto a P42 to test ?

    Amtrak P42C cab car

Wonder why the HHP thing didn't work out ? Looks like VIA Rail is going to retire all of their P42's with the Venture sets coming along, while the F40's get another rebuild to get them through 2035. Amtrak should buy some if they are for sale.

Andy Byford's plan for Penn Station

Penn Station South Plan I believe now is 9 stub tracks and it would add 18 trains per hour. It would work like LIRR Grand Central Madison, which is accompanied by Midday Storage Yard in LIC, adjacent to Sunnyside Yard, though does not touch it, and getting to it bypasses Harold Interlocking...

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

There is zero chance they will keep a spare train set in DC for anything. If they annul an inbound train from Chicago, they will annul the outbound and turn the train headed from Florida right back.
