Thanks for all the replies. The BART should work well as it turns out our hotel is at the Oakland Convention Center area. A cab to the EMY station in the AM should work well.

I will need to drop off a rental car at San Francisco airport either the night before or the morning of our boarding the CS southbound at emy. Plan on staying in Emeryville the night before boarding. Any suggestions on getting from the SFO airport to our Emeryville hotel or the emy Amtrak...

Will Be getting on the CS at 8:25 AM at EMY for the trip to LAX in a Roomette. Will they still be serving breakfast to those of us boarding at that time? Thanks.

Plan to arrive on the CS into LA station at 9pm and will be staying at the Metro Plaza Hotel which is 2-3 blocks away. Should this be walked at night or get a cab for the short ride? Opinions?

Went with the roomette. The access to the parlor car and three meals for two of us seems like a no brainer for the price. Thanks for all the replys.

Additionally, we will stay overnight in Los Angeles near the Amtrak station before taking the Pacific Surfliner to San Diego the next morning. Any decent hotels near the Los Angeles Amtrak station that anyone is familiar with that are decent? thanks.

Am booked on the CS from emy to lax in early Oct and was wondering which side of the train would give the best views? Any ideas?

Thinking of taking the CZ from Chi to Sac in late Sept. and was wondering if the Omaha reroute due to flooding would be over by that time and the schedule would possibly be more on time. Any thoughts?
