I recently stayed at the Red Pagoda Motel in Chinatown. I did this with some apprehension as it was only $49/night on Priceline ... I was pleasantly surprised. It is on the outer edge of Chinatown near Dodger Staduim but I walked from Union Station at night having also arrived on the Starlight. You could take the Gold Line one stop which puts you within a couple of blocks, and before 6:30pm the "D" Dashbus (Chinatown) picks you up in front of Union Station and drops you right by the motel. It is a motel with free parking and outside entrance to the rooms. My room was clean and fresh, no bugs, quiet and had a large TV and fridge. There is free WiFi. I will totally go back there again. There was a variety of clientele, mostly youngish.
