Richmond, VA - Gimme the skinny....

Alright, so what is the plan for Richmond, VA and their different stations exactly? I figured that one of you educated (most likely local) types could prob give me the 411. We have two operational stations in Richmond: the I guess orginal one build in 1907 at Main Street, another at Staples Mill...

    Extentsion NER to LYH?

While I can understand from a Freight RR perspective that would make sense, from a pax point I think that four letter words don't much do it justice. So basicly an entire new route would have to be laid out eh? not much of a hill of beans chance on that one happening... What about track...

    Essential Service?

Having worked in the airlines for years I became very familiar with a federal program called EAS or Essential Air Service. This program grants money to airports in smaller communities that couldn’t maintain a major airline service after CAB/FAA federal deregulation of the airline industry back...

    Extentsion NER to LYH?

was talking to a friend today back in Va and mentioned this extension looks like its gonna take off... her first question was, "does that mean since there is new stimulus money they'll double track it all the way down?" I'm guessing that would be a "no" for the moment, however if they're...

    Seat Assignments?

Okay, so last week I was actually thinking about this topic and debating on posting a thread, now i don't have to! I guess my question is why doesn’t Amtrak adopt a system to that of DB of Germany. Basiclly, from what I remember (it’s been a few years since I made a trip across the pond) if you...

    New NEC extension approved!

I say everyone on here chip in $5 and we start our own railcar company. Who better to build rail cars than rail enthusiasts? Mind you, we'll "Supervise" I'm just not much for backbreaking manual labor, there's nothing stopping the rest of you tho. Support the US economy! woot! As I mentioned in...

    New NEC extension approved!

So, my excitement is finally subsiding and I can breathe again... Not too shabby... I'm quite excited to take this next time I get back over to the east coast! Okay, the person who came up with "Lynchburger" should be shot. period. It makes it sounds like a fast food delivery train, McAmtrak -...

    New NEC extension approved!

How excited was I when I read the below article? :D New Rail Route Funded - WAHU FOX 27 News Finally! A real step in the right direction, the money's approved! One round trip a day of the NEC will be extended from DC south through Charlottesville (CVS) ending in Lynchburg. VRE will move...

    Do you like the Amcans???

While I grew up with the Amcans and they hold a place in my heart for loved memory sake, I'd love to see Amtrak switch to something a little more modern... maybe get some cars that operate on shared trucks like DB's ICE trains... just a thought. While we're at it, lets get some train cars with...

    stimulus money

Awesome, thanks for the link... I was kind of shocked to see that Charlottesville, VA has requested nothing on from the federal funding... typical snobby cville, or maybe just lazy cville not paying attention... It was interesting to see that there was some money was requested for the old ACL...

    When we get new equimpment....

I for one, having traveled a bit would love to see the US switch to more of a European style trainset, big windows, roomy feel. While I've grown up with the Amcans (amfleet) and am fond of them for childhood memory sake I think we could do with a switch. Amcans have small windows and are often...

Final Deal on the Stimulus Package Reached!

wow, this will be a big first step in the right direction! I can't wait to see the first results from this!

    Extentsion NER to LYH?

IMO I don't think it would make much sense to make it D/R only. Amtrak is adding this extension of the regional to help improve ridership becuase they believe there is a market there. AFAIK it would make the most sense as earlier mentioned to change the price structure by rasing the shorthauls...

    How to boost Cardinal Ridership?

You're probably right... I worked in the airline industry for the past few 10 years so I'm used to downsizing and upgauging aircraft to meet needs... there probably would be more complications with two different types of train sets than there would be with subsituting aircraft types.

    How to boost Cardinal Ridership?

So, I like the idea of bringing back the superliners but obviously there probably is not enough equipment. What if schedule was alternated with BOTH amfleet AND superliner car sets? On the days that there is currently no service operate with a superliner set? Obviously the superliner set would...

    Extentsion NER to LYH?

I was thinking about this again this afternoon after talking with a friend of mine who is still living in Charlottesville, will this be a basic trainset of a few coaches and a lounge or will this train also have a premimum cabin car like business class? The central VA area is populated with a...

    Extentsion NER to LYH?

Apparently, from doing more reading after I posted this, it seems the orginal plan was to end the extension in Charlottesville however there is now longer a turntable or a Y to turn the cars around again. While I love charlottesville, if extending it to LYH helps ridership then I think they...

    How to boost Cardinal Ridership?

Maybe this has been posted before but I couldn't find anything... I've been doing some thinking about the Cardinal, the one of many of Amtrak's stepchildren. Having lived in Charlottesville and watched the changes of Amfleet to superliner and back again, diners to lounges and back again... I...

    Extentsion NER to LYH?

First off, this is my first post here and I'd like to say thanks to everyone on here/ I've been lurking on this site for a little over a month and you all have answered so many questions I've had for so long... I grew up in Charlottesville, VA (CVS) and was an avid railfan as a child and still...
