Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars 2024

Where did the CL Super-liners end up going to? Has anything been expanded except coach on the ski train?

Speculation about remaining life of Superliners

Wow so if it’s 2034 that’s 10 years + or - best case. What’s the plan to keep the system intact til then? Has he broached that subject or is that the elephant in the room?

Possible better ways of managing procurement of equipment for Amtrak

I’m just curious and this is an honest question without trying to start a ruckus. How many people at this point really think management will (and wants to) place a long distance order? Now unfortunately we have the variable of next week’s election coming into play too. I think evrything will be...

Tracking FY 2024-25 Ridership and Finances

That Amtrak's current sleeper capacity constraints may be in large part xxxx (intentional). No one here can say 100 percent Amtrak isn’t being intentional in keeping capacity reduced and suppressing revenue in that way. Everyone see’s all the capacity and head scratching decisions like just...

Tracking FY 2024-25 Ridership and Finances

My concern is Gardner calls Congresses bluff so to say and says the LD network now costs some absurd inflated number that they aren’t willing to pay. Where’s the checks and balances when all we have is Amtrak accounting and their less than stellar transparency. Enough people in Congress were...

Tracking FY 2024-25 Ridership and Finances

It’s reported in the linked Trains article. I think it’s becoming obvious this management is playing games to sabotage the LD network. Keeping the V1’s in mothballs while the capacity crisis is going on is just another of countless examples. Ron Batory spelled it out in front of Congress last...

Tracking FY 2024-25 Ridership and Finances

Getting the 25-35 stored V1’s out of the shops would help too. Especially on the new Floridian.

Tracking FY 2024-25 Ridership and Finances

Unfortunately this management does not see it that way. I expect Gardner and the BOD to get more aggressive in front of Congress to let them drop some trains. Poor financials whether legit or self induced don’t help the matter. Inflating LD costs and a more stingy Congress could see things turn...

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

Doesn’t the Eagle already operate with a CCC? I haven’t been on it for a while.

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Time will tell. It is disappointing 3 Viewliners aren’t being used instead of 2 especially since they they should be able to come up with them if they wanted..

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

Temporary due to NEC construction as per Amtrak. Makes me think they may park the gained Superliners from the CL at least until next summer. 🤦

    Fare Buckets discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

The real solution on prices/capacity restrictions is only going to come when current management is removed. The way things are now, even a new car order won’t change management philosophy. With potential board nominee Ron Battory last week saying in front of Congress that Anderson, Coscia and by...

Bi-level Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H2 2024

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

Agreed, it’s a disgrace especially for the outrageous prices they now charge. I’ll say it again Subway would be better and I’m no fan of subway but at least it’s a couple steps up from grocery store freezer meals .

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

Haha, Subway would be better at this point. I know there was union issues with Subway on the NEC once upon a time. How about teaching the LSA to put together a basic deli sandwich? Two basic sandwiches, fresh bread, condiments on the side, chips and a scoop of fruit salad. It’s not even out of...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

I actually enjoyed the grab and go in the jetway cooler. Semi surprised no one has brought it back as an advertised amenity. Closest I’ve seen recently was being handed a 16oz bottle of water as I scanned my boarding pass on an Avelo flight. As far as Amtrak goes, earlier in the thread Amtrak...

Nominations and confirmations for the Amtrak Board of Directors

I’ll be surprised if Schumer moves forward with these two before the election. Great choices and positive for Amtrak and the country as a whole. They represent the R side of the board choices however. Remember Gardner used to work for Schumer. Amtrak under Gardner is NEC centric. Assuming *****...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

Vegan and vegetarian are very different terms. Vegan=no animal products at all such as cheese, milk, etc and by strict definition honey as well. Vegetarian for the most part means no animals were killed in producing the product. My comment regarding the menus is bring back the black bean burgers!

    Fares that don't make sense

I’ve posted here before and people said it’s comparing apples and oranges but I just booked it again and I don’t think it is. We used to take the SWC from Chicago area to SoCal twice a year to see the in-laws. We’d pay less then $1000 one way for the family room and fly home. Now with it...

    Amtrak FY25 Grant Request

Regarding the Texas Eagle (and all flex dining trains for that matter) let’s just say for the sake of argument they get 0 of the 27 mil. Is Flexible dining the very best they can do with the current budget they are allotting to those trains? I don’t remember the exact number but I remember...
