    Greyhound sounding Chicago alarm

    That’s exactly what we need.

Doors didn't open (an Amtrak story...) :)

That freaks me out on the corridor. It hasn’t happened to me, but I’ve worried about it atBWI.

    Amtrak Timetables

The biggest beef I have with Amtrak has been their failure to understand their market. An airline guy is incapable of grasping why a timetable is important. Same with not understanding why it’s important to have lounge space on a train. The new Venture cafes have no seating and feequently, in...

    Amtrak Timetables

The lack of timetables is just stupid. Apparently, it was a Richard Anderson cost cutting move. They eliminated the position of the person that used to do them. RPA has them on their website. That’s a tremendous public service. I’m sure that a national timetable, with lots of advertising, or for...

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

It’s a wonderful addition for Midwest passengers and a minor inconvenience for northeast passengers. I think it will be extremely popular, especially Midwest passengers traveling to the mid-Atlantic. It’s great for equipment utilization and a great marketing idea.

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

The Viewliners are nicer. I don’t mind Amfleet II either. The fun of the Star and the trains running south of DC in the evening was always the lounge. Amtrak has done everything they can to kill the lounge car as well as most people plugged in instead of socializing. It would be nice to see a...

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

All pre-Amtrak sleepers were single level and most sleeping cars in the world are single level, so it’s hardly unprecedented.

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

NS and CSX don’t have too much to say about whether it happens. Amtrak has a statutory right of access. It will take money, but it’s going to happen.

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

It wasn’t a dud. It was a great train once it got a reliable route. It only died because of the misguided Carter cuts. This new one is a brilliant and efficient use of equipment freeing up needed superliners for western service. I think it lasts until there is a new Floridian on the FRA Long...

Greyhound told to quit Denver Union Station

Absolutely great question! We bond and bond and bond for airport improvements and don’t bat an eye at eye popping highway and aviations subsidies, but bus passengers can stand on a cold, rainy or snowy curb and wait for a bus. When someone freezes to death waiting for a bus somewhere, your...

Greyhound told to quit Denver Union Station

While every city is different, the fundamental problem remains. The issue is Greyhound and most other operators have moved to a curbside model without stations. When Greyhound was sold to Flix Bus, one of the perks was the terminals and the land weren’t included. They were then liquidated...

    Amtrak Coach discussion

That would be utter chaos. It would also mean that people would be constantly coming and going when you’re trying to sleep. It would be a nightmare for the crew making sure passengers got off at the right stops. Also, all doors don’t open at all stations, only the cars that have passengers...

    Amtrak Coach discussion

I like the idea of buying a second seat, but not the rest. Have you ever traveled coach across the country? Having people coming and going in the through coach would be incredibly disruptive. It would be a nightmare for the crew and operational chaos. Nobody would get any sleep.

    Amtrak Coach discussion

I’m an odd ball who frequently sleeps as well in coach as the sleeper. The coach is a completely different experience. You’re much closer to your fellow travelers and that can be good or bad. I like coach, and always have a fun ride. Bring noise cancelling headphones and ear plugs, an eye mask...

Passenger train service to Phoenix AZ.

Great comment! I hope you can join us in Tucson in November at the Rail Nation Conference, November 1-3. This work will be front and center. Registration is on the RPA and All Aboard AZ websites.

Passenger train service to Phoenix AZ.

The Espee had a line that would allow service to both, but it would have to be rebuilt, and that’s probably not practical. However, connecting Maricopa by feeder busses is very doable.

Passenger train service to Phoenix AZ.

Rail Nation-Tucson will be held in Tucson November 1-3. This event, cosponsored by Rail Passengers Association and All Aboard Arizona will have top officials from Amtrak, Federal Railroad Administration, Arizona Department of Transportation, mayors from around Arizona, tribal leaders, planners...

Passenger train service to Phoenix AZ.

Planning is ongoing at Arizona DOT. It is required as part of Corridor ID. Tucson to Buckeye was accepted into Corridor ID and funded by the Infrastructure and Jobs Act. The Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle is also being worked as it too was accepted into the program.
