Amtrak unveils new 50th Anniversary units & Phase VII paint scheme

I couldn't agree more. Amtrak, perhaps to rub salt in the wound, actually comes up with great branding pretty consistently. But then they add it to a pool too rich with other branding and completely devoid of standardization. Even now, save the heritage schemes that I get, why are the first...

    West Coast Express

Big money for service sustainability at West Coast Express, Vancouver's heavy rail commuter service. One new locomotive and all other existing equipment getting a refurbishment. Also look for a new (unannounced) paint scheme...

Amtrak unveils new 50th Anniversary units & Phase VII paint scheme

What a fun video. Amtrak's branding in the last twenty years has obviously been a hot mess. The pinnacle for me being the Phase III new Viewliners. Like what is up with that? Anyways it's exciting to see that there appears to be a vision ahead again with Phase VII, and I'm liking the...

    VIA New Corridor Trains - 2021 - 2024 Updates

There's definitely a plan. But are you in a safe place to hear it? 😂

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Well, at least it's supposed to 😂 Amtrak had been reporting back to States that they haven't actually been able to repair Chargers in a timely manner after collisions because of a lack of parts supply from Siemens. Perhaps time to buy a few extra noses like a celebrity and store them awaiting...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

SC44, but basically yes. The 42 is an Amtrak specific long distance model.

    Charger winter problems?

Fair point, but, these Chicago-base issues seem to extend back to mild weather, don't they? In about a year Via will provide us with a direct comparison !

    Charger winter problems?

I find myself scratching my head here too as a distant observer, and someone no where near Chicago - thus, unaware of any historical issues. But there are Chargers running a few places that seem to not have these issues. Maybe on Brightline we would not know because the trains are so small one...

Metra signs contract for new passenger cars

Slightly OT but not worth a new topic, are the SD70s still on order? Id think for a retrofit design they would have arrived by now?

Rocky Mountaineer in the Colorado Rockies

It will be interesting to see how that impacts them in the future. Across many travel related industries that awful practice appears to be normal. I've still got a few grand sitting with Air Canada to my frustration. In any event - this route appears to be more a way for RMR to make some...

    Canadian and Ocean cancelled

Yup. One train set running back and forth was the plan I believe? But with its current schedule keeping even the massive schedule padding is insufficient for that.

    Canadian and Ocean cancelled

Canadian did leave Vancouver tonight, for the fist time in ten months! And, as per tradition, already late.

    Cancelled Via Train

I think there's a few here with a bit more detailed insight, but, I'm pretty sure the major work was already funded and just done earlier and presumably a bit quicker. The rest is just amplified routine maintenance, this was very briefly touched on at the AGM earlier today, and even more briefly...

VIA Rail/Transit in the Canadian Budget

In Canada the fiscal year ends March 31st; the year had only been over a week when "why so long" was posted :)

    VIA Commuter Rail for Halifax

Word on the street is Via is shopping around the RDCs from the suspended indefinitely Vancouver Island service.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Via is actually signed as a non-voting member onto the single level portion aren't they? A large fleet of Via's stainless steal cars used in corridor service are starting down mandatory retirement sometime in the medium future, I cannot remember the exact date.
