Interesting facts and notes in old railroad magazines

Trains, July 1961. Huge article on The Pioneer Limited with tons of diagrams of the Pullman cars. Great diagrams and info. And in the editorial area of magazine the editors mention how shortsighted the AAR is for not spending on PR and ads for the AAR Magna Carta of Transportation program the...

Interesting facts and notes in old railroad magazines

I know that used to be more common with unions but with Taft-Hartley and making secondary boycotts and pickets illegal a lot of that went to the wayside, which was the purpose. I was surprised to see this as late at the mid-60s. On the Piedmont train I was on Monday the vending machine has a...

Interesting facts and notes in old railroad magazines

I just realized that Timken has not advertised in Trains in a bit as I start 1960 issues. I guess the market for their roller bearings has matured to the point it is not worth the ad cost. AAR is still buying a full page ad in every issue of Trains. I think that has been the case since issue...

Right beside the Printed in USA mark is, I assume a date code for June 1964 and then what appears to be a union printing bug. Either due to wanting to use union printers to send a message to union supporters or there just not being anything but union printers around to print the advertisement...

Getting close. That is correct for some of the coaches that NC uses. I was one a few today. I love those cars for getting NC more in the game.

    Sleeper accommodation discussion

That's what I did as well and works fine. For Greensboro, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis the alighting time was waking up from sleep or others around me sleeping and not having to reverse the process and being loud. At last weigh-in we had our large luggage at 49.5 lbs. Impressive in my view.

    Sleeper accommodation discussion

By standard bedroom do you mean bedroom or roomette. If you mean bedroom then I do think you can fit two suitcases. One area is beside the top bunk and extends out over the hallway and the other area is over the sink. Now the question is can you hoist the large suitcases up in that area. I...

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024 H1

Taking Carolinian later today after visiting granddaughter. Received a note on the phone app about a situation with a vehicle between Washington and BWI and there are delays already. Anyone got any information? Could vehicle mean train cars? I thought the NEC did not have any grade crossings...

    Attire on the train?

Just remember to pull the curtains. I ended up doing jeans about the entire trip, though it was very loose shorts after we boarded at Indy at 11:30 PM. The only time I ended up being out of my room for any length of time was I forced my wife to have breakfast in the Crescent dinner car so I...

I think that was the street where my wife noticed a pile of human excrement as we were walking to the city transit depot. Good times.

I was thinking Indianapolis needs to rent out the terminal for some post-apocalyptic zombie movie. They could promote it as a cheap location not really needing any work to make it look good for that post-apocalyptic feel.

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Here goes something I had not said before-----It was better than the flex meal. There I said it. I hope everyone is happy now. 😀 We kept the brownie and chips for later but it was not a bad hamburger. Better than the last time I had the hamburger from the cafe.
