    Disparity in AGR Rewards

It was an ouch to have to add a zone for Toledo to Chicago, and similarly on the return award, but I know the line has to be drawn "somewhere." All in all a good system. The 2-zone roomette seems to be the best bargain of the accommodations.

Positive experince just happend at PDX

Peter, I'm so glad you got the discount straightened out. My hubby was never asked for any documentation to obtain the discount. It was obvious he had some difficulty in walking and used a cane, so maybe that's why. I hope you don't run into that again. My condolences on the loss of your...

My thought, too, DA. Was there not enough available space or something?

Amtrak offers bus connections to Gulf Coast

Ha! I briefly had my itinerary all planned for a visit to my son's family: Drive to Anniston (allow >2 hrs.), take sb Crescent to Tuscaloosa, take bus from Tuscaloosa to Mobile, rent car and drive east... or just drive down the interstates point to point in under 4.5 hours. Oh, well, it was a...

Amtrak offers bus connections to Gulf Coast

:giggle: Hey, anything that increases service in this neck of the woods can't be all bad. LOL

Sitting Alone in the Dining Car

I'm not really an extrovert nor a good conversationalist, but we've always had pleasant experiences with our table mates. On our recent trip, my friend and I shared tables with a personable young businesswoman/nightclub owner from west Africa who was in the US to buy generators* and such to...

    Disparity in AGR Rewards

Me too-- I'm glad to see that Delta will start offering one-way awards as I have a few miles with them. That might help me with my elusive CZ trip someday.

agr tightens up on allowed routings for redemptions

This is the first time I've used the phone app, so I hope this posts in the correct place. I didn't take any of your posts as being critical of me so certainly no apology is needed. I guess the point I was trying to make is that if the routing is the only choice available, it shouldn't matter...

Viewliner II - Part 1 - Initial Production and Delivery

Maybe this is sounding like a broken record (for those who remember or have been introduced to "records" :) ), but I'm afraid all the nickel and diming is going to be counter-productive for Amtrak. As for charging for checked baggage, what airlines can do and what Amtrak can do are two...

    Zephyr 2012-2014

Henry, I too have your book, and it's great. I believe it was the first book about Amtrak travel that I bought. An update would be a bonus! Thanks for the good work.

Best tips for first trip on Empire

Also, keep in mind that the train's electrical power comes from the locomotive. Maybe others can elaborate on what would have to happen for there to be no head end power for the oxygen concentrator, but an emergency supply of oxygen might be something to consider bringing. I've been on a train...

    Disparity in AGR Rewards

Jim suggested AGR should give an awards break to us southerners in his post so that's why I referred him to AGR HR. :) I agree on the one-zone suggestion for those who want that routing. I've done the stretch between ATL-NOL many times and didn't want to go via NOL on our recent trip. Our...

agr tightens up on allowed routings for redemptions

Isp, I'm not familiar with your routing, but if it's exactly the same situation as mine, I don't see how they could refuse it. Our routing was a published one. The thing with my trip is, if they didn't allow that routing, we couldn't have gone at all. The NOL routing isn't allowed, so if our...

    A bit nervous

Ditto William's post. We had Janice and she was our favorite SCA, although none of the four we had were bad. Janice, Amanda, and I together solved all the world's problems including those of a political and religious nature. :) But do not attempt to do your bed yourself--she made that...

    Disparity in AGR Rewards

I agree, William. Jim, please go to work for AGR. :) Yes, we in the SE (ATL and southwest of it) must head northeast before going west as it now stands, and pay for an extra zone in doing so. And sometimes, like on my recent trip, the routing through NOL is not even allowed in AGR, so...

agr tightens up on allowed routings for redemptions

Zone A-Zone B-Zone A is not always forbidden on a two-zone award, if that's the only way you can get there on Amtrak's routing. I just completed an award trip going ATN (Alabama)-WAS-CHI and then the return, CHI-CVS-ATN. (Central-Eastern-Central in each award) No problems at all, because...
