Power "off and on" on Empire Builder

I meant the OBS crew. I haven't the faintest idea of the scheduling of the operating crews any more, aside from when Josh posts about heading to work. lol

Power "off and on" on Empire Builder

You all are running on time, so there's no way you have a freight engine, and there's no spare Amtrak engines sitting out around Minneapolis. It's possible they were resetting the engine(s) if there were computer problems, but even then...you've been so on time that it doesn't seem like there...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I guess what joelkfla was trying to ask is....are those dishes staying on the train to go back to the same vendor in NWK? If the dishes are striped in Boston ABC WAS on many trainsets, how do the get back to NWK? I get it, you're trying to be creative. But as an insider, there are just way...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

First, we need to talk logistics. Who would be responsible for loading that food? If it's not readily available on the platform, then there's a chance they the train will either leave an attendant behind, leave the food behind, or incur a delay waiting on the food to be brought to the train...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

How would that work, since the meals are brought in from only three airports (how would they stay hot)? Or for people boarding downline at stops with no catering service (BWI, BAL, WIL, PHL, TRE, MET, NWK, NHV, NLC, PVD, RTE)? There's also a lot of people who book/upgrade last minute on that...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Last I knew, it was. But admittedly, it's been almost 4 years now since I transferred off the corridor. I haven't even stepped on a Regional for leisure travel for almost 3 years now. It's only the Acela (both First Class and Cafe) that does this, currently. I'm assuming/hoping that the new...

    Fire impacts Coast Starlight (6/29/21)

If you were out working in the area, you would know how believable this is.... Between the backlog of freight traffic, and the heat restrictions this week, trains have been getting dogged left and right between Portland and Eugene all week. On one day in particular I was ~2 hours late just...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

They are meals that are made at and brought in from 3 airports along the corridor, in the same kitchens that make first class meals for airlines. They are then reheated onboard if necessary, typically using an oven. Almost everything in the galley of First Class on the Acela is a clone of an...

    Amtrak tracker having issues again

Indeed it is. It's been doing this off and on for a few days now.

    "Keep in Sight" seat tag?

I more mean a squabble courtesy of others. You're good. But yes, if it was lime green, it denotes that it is a passenger with a disability who may require some sort of assistance.

    "Keep in Sight" seat tag?

Let's see if I can put an end to the squabble. Was one of the seat checks a bright, lime green?

    Empire Builder turnaround at Portland

That typically works, but a dorm would look very similar to a standard coach car on the lower level. But obviously most would expect the first car on the trainset to be a transdorm.

    Roomette location?

LSAs still exist. It's onboard chiefs that you're thinking about. Even then, technically they still exist. We have 7 on the Cascades. It wouldn't have been 100% revenue, but it would have been a revenue car. To all those who said there is no SCA or coffee station in the dorm: though...

Locked the bathrooms on Texas Eagle

So it's almost certain that there was an issue with the waste system, as none of this should've happened...

    Empire Builder turnaround at Portland

That's correct. Well, for the most part. As mentioned, if it's a bag/coach, there will be no windows on the lower level (aside from on the door). This can look very similar to a diner at a quick glance. However, on the upper level, a diner will have a big gap in between the windows towards...

Locked the bathrooms on Texas Eagle

I've never heard this, and I've worked with several crews, and have been a part of many rail fan groups. A mechanical issue is much more likely to be the culprit.

Canadian border reopening; how soon will international railrestored?

I know what you said. I'm trying to give the insight of someone "in the know" that WSDOT is anxious to get service rolling again, with or without the US side being open to Canadians.

Canadian border reopening; how soon will international railrestored?

There is currently nowhere the Cascades would be allowed to park the trainset while waiting to turn and run back to Seattle. I've asked this same question. I loved when we were even running Superliner sets to Canada on the morning up/evening back. It certainly made for a beautiful commute...

    Empire Builder turnaround at Portland

Though there is a massive shortage company why, that is not why OBS turns back same day. Simply put, crews do not layover at turnaround points for 2+ days waiting to work their return trip. With how the train schedule is designed, it's either they go back the same day, or the next. The crew...

    Amtrak Cascades Service

There's many different talks, but it's looking to be around the beginning of September. For months I've been saying that September 7th, the hypothetical day for many restrictions to be lifted, would be a good day. We'll see if I'm right. I currently have to commute by air, and both US CBP...
