    Roasting on the Eagle

If you are an AGR (Amtrak Guest Rewards) member, try calling the dedicated phone number: 1 (800) 307-5000. At the very least they should offer you a voucher applicable towards future travel. Sorry about your uncomfortable room

Silver Star/Silver Meteor combined train (Jan - Oct 2022)

I've dropped a menu or two into that slot behind the folding table too. You're in good company! ;)

RPA's Jim Mathews' views on Amtrak

Great article. And, reading it did not require a subscription.

    Review of Viewliner II roomette

Ah, but it isn’t. During the day, the ladder is stuffed behind the swivel seat. It rattles all day long. See the attached picture. The storage cubby in the Viewliner 1 bedroom was much better.

    Review of Viewliner II roomette

Maybe they used a mattress from the Viewliner 2 roomette? I wonder if the Viewliner 2 roomette mattress even fits the Viewliner 1 roomette upper bunk?

BC gone on the LSL after July 2?, 2022

I found this picture allegedly of an Amfleet I business class car before the recent makeover. I remember traveling in Business Class on the Maple Leaf in 2001 and the seats were burgundy like these. So, this could be what you were looking for.

Rumors about Amtrak move to the MIC at Miami International Airport

Three cheers for Kumar. He’s one of the best! We had him twice as well, mostly recently May 1st.

    Another try with sleeper buses

Wow! This was like 1964. I was four years old at the time. But, I seem to remember Turkey sandwiches served by female attendants with really nice uniforms. I seem to remember the female attendants more than the food! 😊

    Another try with sleeper buses

Yep! I got carbon dioxide (CO2) confused with carbon monoxide (CO). Plus I’d watched an Apollo 13 documentary on the build-up of CO2 in the Lunar Module and the DIY fix to correct the problem!

    Another try with sleeper buses

Plus, would not the bus operator have died from the CO2 exposure?

    Another try with sleeper buses

I remember traveling on Trailways Golden Eagle buses as a child with my parents back in the 1960s!

Bedroom downgraded to Coach a week before departure

Just curious: has this type of downgrade happened on east coast overnight routes? From what I'm reading, this seems limited to west coast routes, so far!

    Review of Viewliner II roomette

My biggest complaints with the Viewliner II cars are: 1 - The bedroom seems somewhat smaller than VLI. 2 - No storage cubby for the upper bunk ladder. 2 - The sink is definitely smaller. 3 - The mattress is extremely hard!

Lake Shore Limited questions (Spring - Summer 2022)

I am booked on 49 (8/3) in car 4911, room 4. Does anyone know if this room will have the Hudson River view between NYP and ALB? From past experience, I’m thinking the odd-numbered rooms have the Hudson River view. Thanks!

Niagara Falls border crossing without Maple Leaf question

In 2001, 2002 and 2003 I took a taxi across the border from the Niagara Falls Amtrak Station. Is that no longer possible?

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Today I am on the “Super Star” (92 - 5/13). It is several hours late. As of this writing (6:36 PM) we just left Richmond, VA. Our SCA delivered snack boxes and bottled water to the room. He said they hope to load some more Flex meals at WAS. The snack box consists of roasted almonds, Cheez-Its...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Currently on the Super Star (5/1). Has anyone seen this item on the Flex menu? It’s a Buttercake - extremely rich! I’m not a fan myself. According to Kumar, my SCA, this has replaced the Blondie Brownie. The chocolate one is still available.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

The one thing we got last train trip was water - bottles and bottles of water! Not complaining, just stating fact. :)

And, I did wait my turn in the cafe car. Thanks for all the replies! :)

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I cut our SCA some slack as this was the Silver Star (pre "Super Star" consist), and he was the only SCA serving both sleeper cars. Plus, he was nuking the Flex meals in the dining car. There was plenty of bottled water and we took full advantage of that. But, if I wanted a soda for instance, I...
