Private train (including Patrick Henry Cars) headed South through CA?

The “competing” railroads will allow executive trains from other railroads, from what I have seen. It could be that the mojave subdivision was overloaded or not preferred for the run.

Amtrak says it will not run trains on routes without PTC

The signals were off to allow the cutover of the new electronics. The switch that was apparently reported lined for the main line wasn’t actually lined for the main.

A few (more) questions about Empire Builder roomettes

Last car in the train, enjoy the so called “railfan window” on the upper level of your car facing backwards.

How is transitdocs color coding determined?

I think it is based on the actual standards Amtrak and Via have set out for their trains. Long distance trains are the most likely to be delayed, and thus have more delay acceptance than corridor trains.

    online booking upper/lower roomette

Ive seen this stated multiple times over the years, but the more reports from calling in I see the less I agree with this. I think there was a change some years ago to have specific rooms have specific fares assigned to them.

Amtrak Train 91-CSX collision in SC (2/4/18)/Liability issues

Lots of sparks, would the wheels stopping combined with the HEP disconnecting lead to that type of sparks?

East and West Glacier with bicycle?

West glacier, known on BNSF as belton, is not a staffed station, but may have trainside bicycle services.

    Auto Train Safety

Auto Train has only had one major derailment in the last two decades, and it wasn’t speed related. The only other derailment I can remember of this service was the auto racks, but the rest of the train continued safely to the terminal. Don’t worry and have a safe and fun trip!

Train 3 (4) and the missing coach car

Don’t forget that the diner on the meteor is a viewliner now as well. That could be where the sense of having four sleepers is from. If my memory serves me correctly, there should be five viewliners on the train, counting the diner and baggage cars.

Confused by booking system and availability Texas Eagle

How can you pass through Belgrade, Manhattan and Amsterdam in a single hour?

    DC Red Line delays

Equipment needs or physical plant limitations on where a set can cross over to the correct line for the platform or direction they are traveling would be my guess.

    Heritage units website

Hi, thanks for posting to the Amtrak Unlimited Forum. As far as I am aware, we don’t have any connection to the heritage units reporting site. This is a forum set up and operated by fans of Amtrak that have many talents, and we try to be as helpful as possible. I’m sure that if any of us can...

Question re Amtrak platform closure at San Bernardino Santa Fe Depot

I think there may be some miscommunication here. Amtrak uses the old Santa Fe depot that is part of the railyard immediately to the west of Interstate 215, and this is the station shown in the screen capture below: Is this the station you were thinking of near downtown? EDIT: Looks like...

Southwest Chief News & Future Operations

Considering that MRL runs a train called the “gas local” twice a day, as well as unit oil trains, it is a good bet that PTC is being installed, especially since I have directly observed that they are installing new signals with PTC equipment.
